Task:

Develop gaskets on Navy BuAer contract that are resistant to high-octane gasoline and are resilient at low temperatures

Result:

Patented process for bonding silicone rubber to Teflon and to Kel-F to make a sandwich-type gasket meeting BuAer requirements, two patents. Concurrently developed a process for coating metals with Teflon as in a Teflon-coated frying pan; not patented by the rubber company.

Task:

Develop a nylon rope termination material and process for the Yankee Escape System (ejection from fighter aircraft). Supplier's prior rope termination failed at about 55% of rope strength.

Result:

New process was put into place at client's facilities and reached more than 93% of the rope strength.

Task:

Develop a plastic capsule system for more efficient handling and transfer of bull semen for artificial insemination of cattle.

Result:

International patents obtained on a cost effective packaging and transfer system, US Patent 3,256,884

Task:

Develop novel techniques for making a lightweight pattern for unique automobile body. Develop composite molds and composite body parts using epoxy, glass and honeycomb.

Result:

Body functioned well. The fan propulsion system for the vehicle could reach only 35 mph and the vehicle was deemed to be impractical.
